Garmin Introduces GXM 42 Portable Aviation Weather Receiver

New Purchase Rebate Available

Garmin has unveiled the GXM 42, a portable SiriusXM Aviation weather receiver which allows pilots to access new weather services made available by SiriusXM and their enhanced satellite network. The GXM 42 is the latest addition to a vast lineup of weather antenna receivers, which offers state-of-the-art SiriusXM Aviation data reception while making even more weather products available at a lower subscription tier. Furthermore, the base service now includes lightning, including cloud-to-cloud and cloud-to-ground activity, graphical winds aloft, temperatures aloft, AIRMETS, and SIGMETS, which were previously available within higher subscription levels.

Similar to earlier generation antennas, the GXM 42 offers pertinent weather products such as radar, aviation routine weather reports (METARs), terminal aerodrome forecasts (TAFs), temporary flight restrictions (TFRs), turbulence forecasts, and more. Data subscriptions and coverage area information is available from SiriusXM.

Currently, the GXM 42 is compatible with the aera 796. Future compatibility with other current production portables is anticipated to follow this year.

The GXM 42 is currently available for purchase starting at $599.00. SiriusXM is expected to offer a $300.00 SiriusXM Rewards VISA Prepaid Card rebate for new purchases with a qualifying subscription. Furthermore, activation fees have been lowered to $25.00 and discounts are available to customers who choose to prepay for annual subscriptions with SiriusXM.
