Shandong selects Rockwell Collins' Flight Dynamics Head-Up Guidance

First In China To Go With Rockwell-Collins' Heads-Up Technology

Rockwell Collins said Monday that China's Shandong Airlines has selected the company's Flight Dynamics Head-up Guidance System (HGS) for installation on Shandong's new fleet of fifteen 737-700 and -800 aircraft. Delivery of the first systems will be in mid-2005.

"The HGS-4000 will provide Shandong Airlines with increased operational capability and improved margins of safety in daily operations," said John Desmond, vice president, Flight Dynamics for Rockwell Collins. "We see this as a sign of increased opportunity in China."

Shandong is the first airline in China to adopt the Rockwell Collins head-up guidance technology. The Civil Aviation Authority in China (CAAC) supports the use of HGS by Chinese airlines and is developing standards for HGS operations in China.

The Flight Dynamics HGS-4000 presents critical flight information in the pilot's forward field of view. Aircraft flight path and acceleration symbols appear overlaying the outside scene enhancing situational awareness, improving energy management and increasing touchdown precision. Features include runway remaining display, tailstrike avoidance display and unusual attitude recover display. The HGS-4000 also provides a platform to display new technologies such as enhanced vision and surface guidance which will further improve safety of operations.
