Company First as Generations Oversee Flight from Memphis to Incheon

Teri Eidson and Nicole McCallister became the first mother-daughter duo to co-pilot an international flight, according to FedEx personnel. The pilots took FedEx flight 5434 from the carrier's main hub at Memphis International Airport to Incheon, South Korea. The 14-hour flight preceded Mother's Day by a few weeks, but offered a unique opportunity for a family moment seldom seen in the industry. In recounting their experience to journalist Channing Reid, they said the idea of being a 'first' in aviation history hadn't quite sunk in.

The looming deadline to install compliant navigational equipment won't be extended, according to DoT Secretary Pete Buttigieg. In a conference call with airlines, he urged them to work aggressively to bring their fleets into compliance before the July 1st deadline, backed up by an FAA warning that the administration has no plans to offer extensions. The rule requires aircraft to have updated radio altimeters that can safely operate accurately even in the vicinity of newly released 5G networks around the country - and finding such units remains a chore after years of uneven parts availability.

Study by ‘Institute for Policy Studies’ “Omits Key Information about Innovations that Lower the Carbon Footprint of Business Aviation”

The NBAA took issue with a Washington DC-based policy group, describing its work as “promoting a misleading caricature of business aviation that ignores the sector’s sustainability leadership and the industry’s essential role in the nation’s economy and transportation system.” The group, the opaquely-named “Institute for Policy Studies”, lies accused of ignoring advances in the aviation industry to paint an unflattering, unrealistic picture of its overall carbon impact over the coming decades.

Iris Casia G AI to Serve as Basis for In-Flight Aircraft Detection

DroneUp has embarked on a partnership with Iris Automation that will bring the firm’s AI-powered Casia G technology to their autonomous drone delivery platform. The change will allow DroneUp to maintain a higher level of situational awareness while undergoing drone flights in its delivery areas, using Casia G nodes as a home base to watch the skies for unannounced airspace entries. The unit will act much like a base station, providing a full 360º view of surrounding airspace and meshing with others in the network to provide complete aircraft detection, classification, and alerting.

During The Forced Landing, About 15 Ft Above The Ground, The Pilot Stalled The Airplane

On April 24, 2023, about 1914 Pacific daylight time, an experimental amateur-built Kolb Firestar II airplane, N454K, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Enumclaw, Washington. The pilot sustained minor injuries.The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 91 personal flight.The pilot reported that shortly after takeoff, the engine lost power and he therefore initiated a forced landing to an open field. During the forced landing, about 15 ft above the ground, the pilot stalled the airplane.

The information is published in the National Flight Data Digest.
