Rutan's aircraft, a Long EZ, joins his longtime friend Mike Melvill's own record-setting Long EZ in the museum's collection. The aircraft were built simultaneously at the Mojave airport by both men before embarking on their maiden voyages together. General Aviation Modifications, Inc (GAMI) has announced the formation of its online G100UL STC shop, allowing operators a streamlined, simple way to take advantage of their new unleaded avgas. The wide-ranging STC received last year covers all gasoline powered aircraft and engines within the FAA’s type certificate database are approved to use G100UL. GAMI points out that their G100UL product is "the first and only FAA-certified, totally lead free, high octane avgas".

NASA Unveils Schedule for Rocket Launch to Assess Voyaging Asteroid
NASA's rocket launch schedule for a journey to the asteroid Psyche has been unveiled, finally ending a 1 year delay. The launch will take off from the Kennedy Space Center on October 1st, 2023. The Psyche mission will survey the metal-rich asteroid as it orbits the Sun in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. Psyche, were it to be mined, would be worth an estimated 10 quintillion dollars, its 220-km circumference accounting for 1% of the asteroid belt's mass altogether.
Aerobatic Sonex Aircraft High Wing to Debut at EAA AirVenture 2023
Sonex Aircraft, LLC, the American manufacturer of popular, lightweight, metal, low-wing, two-seat, homebuilt aircraft the likes of the Sonex, Waiex B, and Xenos, announced in August 2021 that it would produce its first high-wing aircraft. Prosaically dubbed the Sonex Aircraft High Wing, the machine was designed to appeal to the high-wing enthusiast by offering expanded utility and ease of pilot access in a nimble, stylish package.

Ampaire has received a letter of intent to upgrade up to 6 of Conecta’s Grand Caravans to Ampaire Eco Caravans. Ampaire's Eco Caravan is based around their AMP-H570 hybrid-electric powertrain and battery pack. Conecta is Brazil's largest airline by passenger volume, despite operating as a regional under Azul Airlines. The switch to an Eco Caravan could be the spark Ampaire is looking for to unlock the wider South American market, and it comes at the right time to build hype in their conversions.

While at the Consumer Electronics Show held in Las Vegas in January 2017, ANN CEO and Editor-In-Chief, Jim Campbell stopped to look at a little drone that was design for recreational use. It is compact, has a great 4K camera, and even has add-on modules aimed at the recreational operator. It’s called the S6 Mini Drone and is produced by Wingsland. Sales associate, Taylor Reina, gave Jim some of the background information. It folds down to about the size of an iPhone 6 and is intended to be an ideal drone for backpacking and portable use.
Researchers from the University of Delaware and the U.S. military have discovered no fewer than five B-24 Liberator bombers in the Adriatic Sea. The aircraft were lost while returning from bombing missions over Italy, plunging into the Adriatic’s relatively warm depths after sustaining damage from Axis fighters and anti-aircraft installations. The lost bombers are linked to at least 23 Allied aviators declared missing in action during the Second World War.
Airplane Made A 360° Left Turn And Began A Rapid Descent
On January 24, 2023, about 1539 eastern standard time, a Cirrus SR20 airplane, N99EC, was destroyed when it was involved in an accident near Indianapolis, Indiana. The pilot sustained fatal injuries. The airplane was being operated as a Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. According to automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast data (ADS-B), the airplane departed the Indianapolis Executive Airport, Indianapolis, Indiana, about 1526.

Abbreviated IFR Flight Plans
An authorization by ATC requiring pilots to submit only that information needed for the purpose of ATC. It includes only a small portion of the usual IFR flight plan information. In certain instances, this may be only aircraft identification, location, and pilot request. Other information may be requested if needed by ATC for separation/control purposes. It is frequently used by aircraft which are airborne and desire an instrument approach or by aircraft which are on the ground and desire a climb to VFR-on-top.
