Accident Flight Was His First Flight In The Glider

On June 6, 2021, about 1300 eastern daylight time, a Schweizer SGS 1-35 glider, N2878H, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Wurtsboro, New York. The pilot was fatally injured. The glider was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. According to the towplane pilot, the accident pilot owned the glider, and the accident flight was his first flight in the glider. During initial climb from runway 23, near the departure end, about 100 to 200 ft above ground level, the glider pilot released the tow rope and began a 45° bank right turn back toward the airport.

AD 2021-12-04 Prompted By A Report That Corrosion Was Found On The Horizontal Flange On The Front Spar Lower Boom

The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for all Fokker Services B.V. Model F28 Mark 0070 and 0100 airplanes. This AD was prompted by a report that corrosion was found on the horizontal flange on the front spar lower boom, between the rebate strap and the lower boom, and resulted in bulging. Glideslope Intercept Altitude The minimum altitude to intercept the glideslope/path on a precision approach. The intersection of the published intercept altitude with the glideslope/path, designated on Government charts by the lightning bolt symbol, is the precision FAF; however, when the approach chart shows an alternative lower glideslope intercept altitude, and ATC directs a lower altitude, the resultant lower intercept position is then the FAF.
