Another Icon A5 accident has been reviewed by the NTSB.... Leading to questions about the airplane and the way this aircraft is being operated by the folks who supposedly know it. According to the Prelim, “The pilot rated passenger, who was seated in the left seat at the time of the accident, stated that 'the weather was not the best' and that the wind was shifting 180°. He said he told the pilot-in-command (PIC) this sentiment, and that it took four takeoff attempts to get airborne. After the second attempt, he said he told the PIC that it would not break his heart if they did not go. He said that the airplane felt very sluggish and acted as if it did not want to come off the wate

Bell 407GXi Earns IFR Certification

Certification Advances Bell's Single-Engine Aircraft To Support US Navy Trainer Replacement

Bell has announced that the FAA has issued an IFR STC for the Bell 407GXi. The certification is a requirement for the Navy Advanced Helicopter Training System competition, enabling the Bell 407GXi to replace the Bell TH-57 Sea Ranger as the US Navy's training helicopter. Bell's replacement bid offers a unique combination of capability, ease of transition, and low sustainment costs, giving the best value to the Navy. Should the Bell 407GXi be selected for the US Navy Advanced Helicopter Trainer program, the company plans to conduct final assembly of the aircraft in Ozark, Alabama.

Commercial Crew Astronauts Conduct Additional Training Drills

NASA’s Commercial Crew Program Conducts Training At Solid Pace

SpaceX recently held a training event at its facility in Hawthorne, California for prelaunch operations with NASA astronauts Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley and ground operators for the company’s Demo-2 mission to the International Space Station as part of NASA’s Commercial Crew Program. The training provided an opportunity for the integrated team to dry run all of the activities, procedures and communication that will be exercised on launch day when a Crew Dragon spacecraft launches on a Falcon 9 rocket from Launch Complex 39A in Florida.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. On Board Citation That Went Off Runway

No Injuries Reported In Tennessee Accident

Well-known racing personality, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and his wife, were involved in an off-runway excursion that severely trashed a Cessna Citation, Thursday, but thankfully resulted in no serious injuries to those aboard. Among those reported on board, along with Earnhardt, were his wife and daughter. No other persons have thus far been reported to be on board the aircraft at the time of the incident, outside of the two pilots. The Citation experienced some as yet unknown difficulty after landing at the Elizabethton Municipal Airport in Tennessee. The aircraft was seen to go off the end of the runway, incur significant damage, and catch fire.

United Airlines Increases 'Bottle to Throttle' Limits

No Drinking Allowed for 12 Hours Before Shift Starts

Few flyers have been in the business for long without hearing about there being at least an 8 hour bottle to throttle rule... and now United Airlines pilots have a few more hours to add to the formula. After recent bad press involving pilots suspected of being drunk or at least under the influence as they prepared to fly, United Airlines seems ready to set aside some additional boundaries to avoid further such temptations. They have good reason to be rethinking this strategy... in one of the most recent incidents, it was two of UA's pilots who wound up under arrest as they prepped for a scheduled FAR 121 flight from Scotland's Glasgow Airport to the US's Newark Airport, on August 3rd.

Selecting a Launch Provider for Dream Chaser Launches Is A Milestone

The Commercial Spaceflight Federation (CSF) has congratulated Sierra Nevada Corp. on selecting United Launch Alliance (ULA) as the launch vehicle provider for the Dream Chaser spacecraft's six NASA cargo resupply and return missions to the International Space Station. Under NASA's Commercial Resupply Services 2 contract, in 2021, the Dream Chaser will deliver more than 12,000 pounds of pressurized and unpressurized cargo to the space station in 2021, and remains attached for up to 75 days as an orbiting laboratory.

Boeing delivered the first of eight 787-10 Dreamliner airplanes to Vietnam Airlines today via lease from Air Lease Corporation. The Vietnamese flag carrier plans to put the 787-10 on the busiest routes in its network. "Welcoming the largest member of the 787 family to our growing fleet ensures we continue to boast one of the youngest and most modern fleets in Asia and also adds a competitive edge to Vietnam Airlines' operations. Somewhere, there are two US Navy Blue Angel pilots who possess some very capable rabbit's feet. The US Navy has confirmed that a Wednesday practice flight went awry when two Blue Angel F/A-18s came into contact with each other... thankfully, without any serious damage. Blue Angel Spokesperson, Lt. Michelle Tucker, described the incident on behalf of Rear Admiral Daniel Dwyer, chief of naval air training... "The No. 3 canopy made momentary contact with the underside of No. 1's outer wing during the Diamond 360 maneuver," she noted.
