First Flight! Textron AirLand Scorpion ISR/Strike Aircraft

Joint Venture Aircraft Spreads Its Wings

It flies... and apparently does so fairly well. The joint venture between Textron AirLand and AirLand Enterprises  has produced a flying prototype of the Scorpion Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR)/Strike aircraft. The bird completed its first flight at 10:30 AM Central Time. The aircraft took off from McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita, Kansas and conducted a range of handling maneuvers for approximately 1.4 hours of flight. Today’s flight marks one of the fastest developments of a U.S.-built tactical jet, progressing from initial design to first flight in less than 24 months.

Initial Order Placed By Germany’s Baden Württemberg Police

Germany’s Landespolizei Baden Württemberg has ordered six Eurocopter EC145 T2 helicopters, becoming the first law enforcement customer for this evolved version of the EC145 twin-engine rotorcraft. When delivered in 2015-2016, these EC145 T2s will provide the southwestern German state’s police force with a highly capable multi-role fleet to replace a mixed fleet of two other helicopter types.

FAA Backtracks On Implementation Of New Sleep Apnea Policy

Move Follows Objections By The Civil Aviation Medical Association 

The FAA has sent a memo to Aviation Medical Examiners saying that its Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) policy introduced last month in a medical bulletin had not been implemented and physicians should not include body mass index calculations as part of the airman medical examinations.
