NTSB Chair Hersman Outlines Safety Recommendations For Air Races

Holds News Conference In Reno To Announce Suggested Changes

NTSB Chair Deborah A.P. Hersman held a news conference in Reno Tuesday to announce recommended changes in how air races are conducted in an effort to improve safety. "We are not here to put a stop to air racing," Hersman said. "We are here to make it safer."

First Two Students Complete New Type Rating Courses At Florida Tech

Program Allows Undergrads To use Regular Electives To Prepare For Aviation Careers

Juan Villa-Navarro and Sidney Callaghan are the first to complete Florida Institute of Technology’s new advanced airline pilot flight courses. The flight courses, Jet Transition and Commercial Type Rating, are presented in conjunction with Aerostar Training Services of Orlando. In preparation, they had completed Florida Tech‘s third course, Flight Observation, in which Navarro and Callaghan observed 16 hours of simulator training to learn first-hand the teamwork required of flying as a crew. The two also have made collegiate aviation history this semester (April 6) by obtaining a Captain’s license in the Airbus A320.

The host of a fishing show appearing on the Outdoor Channel was fatally injured Friday when the Comp Air 8 he was flying went down shortly after takeoff in the Florida Everglades. Jose Wejebe, 54, was the only person on board the aircraft when it went down.

California Man Accused Of 'Endangering Life And Property Of Another'

FAA officials have ordered Michael B. Ferrero of Penngrove, CA, to surrender his pilot certificate or face fines of $1,100 per day following charges that he operated an airplane while intoxicated. The emergency revocation order came after the 62-year-old Ferrero was observed flying eratically over a highway and failed a field sobriety test after landing on January 3rd.
