'Liberty Belle' B-17 Down Near Chicago

All On Board Survive, Aircraft A Total Loss

The B-17 resorted by The Liberty Foundation in Miami has gone down in a cornfield near Chicago. While all seven people on board the aircraft survived, the rare warbird was lost due to a post-crash fire.

Even Better... Commencement of 5350' Runway Construction

The folks of Hampton Roads Executive Airport have a lot to be proud of this week... as they celebrate a huge step forward with a new terminal and runway in Chesapeake. Hampton Roads Executive Airport successfully unveiled its New Executive Terminal and commenced construction on a new 5,350 foot runway. The grand opening celebration and ribbon-cutting for the new runway, held on Friday, May 6, was highlighted by remarks from Chesapeake native U.S. Congressman Randy Forbes.

As NASA prepares for the final space shuttle mission, with Atlantis scheduled to launch on July 8, the International Women's Air & Space Museum (IWASM) is documenting the history of women astronauts in the space shuttle program with the new exhibit, "Rocket Girls: Women Astronauts & the Space Shuttle". To help tell the story of the early women astronauts, IWASM has utilized several comprehensive archival image discs made by Retro Space Images.

It was a good try. Bertrand Piccard and André Borschberg were trying to head for Paris, flying the Solar Impulse, in order to serve as a special guest of the Paris Air Show. The flight, planned from Brussels to Paris Le Bourget, Saturday, had to turn back half-way and land back in Brussels where it had taken off.

Adding Stopping Power For A USAF Workhorse

Members of the 418th Flight Test Squadron C-130 Hercules Wheel Brake System Improvement program at Edwards AFB are testing the performance of carbon brakes and the new Mark IV Digital Antiskid Control Unit for the aircraft to replace the C-130's legacy brake system. Members of this test group said they know the lives of current and future C-130 crewmembers depend on them doing their job right.

Fairing An added streamlining structure or auxiliary member, most often of light metal, whose only purpose is to reduce drag. Fairings are not load-bearing and, therefore, are not meant to carry any principal air loads placed on the airplane structure.

Aero-Linx: Aero-TV/SAFE Symposium Hi-Def Channel Established on behalf of the Society of Aviation and Flight Educators (SAFE), high definition video of the seminars and speeches given at the 2011 SAFE Pilot Training Reform Symposium channel, have been archived, in full high-def, for the inspection and education of the aviation comunity.
