Eurocopter Announces Deliveries, New Orders At Air Medical Conference

Stat MedEvac, Air Methods Both Expanding EC Fleets

Air Methods Corporation has taken delivery of nine new Eurocopter helicopters in 2009, maintaining its fleet upgrade despite a challenging economy.

The deliveries included seven AS350B3s, one EC130, and one EC 135 in 2009. The helicopters join Air Methods' sizable fleet of more than 330 helicopters providing emergency medical services throughout the United States.

"Investments in new technology are always important to support Air Methods' enduring commitment to safety, reliability and cost-effective operations," said Paul Tate, COO for Air Methods. "Most everyone is facing challenging economic times, but we are choosing to invest in our future so we can continually better serve our customers."

Air Methods operates a variety of Eurocopter products, including EC130s, EC135s, EC145s, AS350s, AS365s, BK117s and BO105s.

"Air Methods as a world leader has played a key role in American Eurocopter's development of new products for in the U.S. EMS market," said Marc Paganini, President & CEO of American Eurocopter. "Our mutual commitment to the industry, to incorporate technologically advanced products and safety enhancements has helped distinguish both of our companies in the industry."

In a related development announced at the Air Medical Transport Conference Tuesday, STAT MedEvac of West Mifflin, Pennsylvania, said it is continuing to expand its fleet of EC135 helicopters, converting one of three existing options to a firm order. The company has now ordered a total of 16 EC135s. The new aircraft will be delivered in 2010.

"We consider it a privilege to be a part of the vitally important air medical community and to provide industry leaders like STAT MedEvac with helicopters that are made for their mission," said Marc Paganini, President & CEO of American Eurocopter. "Their choice to continue to expand their fleet of EC135s reaffirms their commitment to incorporating the latest technology to perform their important missions."

STAT MedEvac was the first air medical provider to operate the EC135 in the U.S.  Today, STAT MedEvac operates 15 EC135s and six EC145s.

"The EC135 and EC145s are well suited for the air medical mission, and provide us with a highly efficient and effective fleet," said Doug Garretson, president and chief executive officer of STAT MedEvac.  "The digital autopilot system and other safety enhancements continue to be important considerations in selecting American Eurocopter products."

"Together, American Eurocopter and operators like STAT MedEvac are making important strides in continuously improving air medical safety," Paganini said.
