Company Offers Cosmetics Geared To Airline Workers

The Women in Aviation International exhibit hall has booths geared toward the needs of women in the aviation industry: company booths recruiting new hires, pilot advocacy groups soliciting new members, and now a cosmetics line to help female (yes, and male) crew members cope with the dry air of an aircraft cabin.

Elizabeth Davino, a flight attendant with Continental Airlines, knows what long hours in a dry cabin or cockpit environment can do to your skin. So she used her interest in quality cosmetics to target a new market: fellow flight attendants and pilots.

How would cosmetics be viewed at a professional pilots’ conference? "I asked the women pilots that I worked with: 'How do you think [the products] will be received?'" Davino said. "And they thought it would be a great environment."

The company, Arbonne International, offers a line of cosmetics, nutrition, aromatherapy and weight loss products for both women and men, and has grown 164% in profits since the company was established in 1980.

"What initially attracted me was the quality of the ingredients," Davino said of the cosmetics that were formulated in Switzerland and produced in the United States.

Convention-goers responded favorably toward the feel and the citrus scent of the products on display... particularly the collection of anti-aging skin products that are Arbonne's top seller.

Although cosmetic sales can be a lucrative business, Davino's heart remains with Continental. "I'll stay with them forever," she said.
