Still A Survivor... EAA B-17 Gets Through Hurricane Ian With Minor Damage

Bomber Was Undergoing Repairs in SW Florida

EAA’s B-17 Aluminum Overcast, which has been based in Punta Gorda, Florida, for the past year while awaiting repairs to its wing structure, apparently sustained only minor damage as Hurricane Ian came ashore in that area of the Gulf Coast earlier this week and caused tremendous damage in that region. “We were incredibly fortunate that the aircraft did not suffer any major damage, from what early indications tell us,” said Jack J. Pelton, EAA CEO and chairman of the board.

NASA Updates Starliner Crew Assignments

To Boldly Go…

NASA has assigned two astronauts to the agency’s Boeing Starliner-1 launch to the International Space Station, the spacecraft’s first planned mission following completion of its flight-testing and certification programs. Astronauts Scott Tingle and Mike Fincke will serve as the CST-100 Starliner spacecraft commander and pilot, respectively. Both men are space veterans, having each previously flown as crew members aboard the space station.

Embraer Delivers 1700th E-Jet

Embraer, the Brazilian multinational manufacturer of commercial, military, executive, and agricultural aircraft, has delivered the 1,700th production specimen of its robustly successful E-Jet family of narrow-body airliners. Subject aircraft, an  Aircastle leased E195-E2, was handed over to KLM Cityhopper at a ceremony at Embraer’s facility in São José dos Campos. The newly delivered airplane was the sixtieth to join KLM Cityhopper’s E-Jet fleet—the largest in Europe.

On September 14, 2022, about 1054 mountain daylight time, a Vans RV-6A, N992KS, was destroyed when it was involved in an accident near Preston, Idaho. The pilot and the passenger sustained fatal injuries. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. The accident airplane was the lead in a flight of two that departure from Ontario Municipal Airport (ONO), in Ontario, Oregon, about 0911. After departure, Salt Lake City Air Route Traffic Control Center provided flight following services to the flight of two airplanes.
