Flying Taxi Concepts Gain Traction But Practical Challenges Remain

There's A Lot Of Outside Funding Coming Into The Space...

By Brian Foley Urban Air Mobility (UAM) is suggested by some industry participants and investors to be the next big disruptor in air transportation. It's envisioned that Jetson-like, small flying pods, often battery powered, will whisk passengers on short intra-city or regional hops starting with the press of an app, all while leaving an ecologically friendly footprint at relatively economical air travel fares. Known as eVTOLs for Electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing, these vehicles and support ecosystem are argued by some to be the most significant civil air transportation development since the jet age. They have spawned hundreds of individual air vehicle designs,

SWA Pilot's Union Opposes Medical Testing Before Flight

SWAPA Opposes the Implementation of Pre-Departure COVID-19 Testing

Southwest Airlines Pilots Association (SWAPA) has come to strongly opposed the implementation of a pre-departure COVID-19 testing requirement for domestic air travel. Such a mandate would decimate domestic air travel demand, put aviation jobs at risk, and create serious unintended consequences. International travel demand is down as much as 48% since the implementation of a pre-departure testing requirement. Decreases in domestic travel demand would run even higher as the cost of testing in many cases would exceed the cost of travel. This reality would simply cause travelers to choose an alternative method of travel with a much greater probability of exposure.
