Airborne 07.06.20: Stratos 716X, Phillies Pitcher Lost, King Schools Giveaway

Stratos Aircraft has conducted the first flight of its Stratos 716X model - registration N716X. The flight lasted 22 minutes. Flown by test pilot Sean VanHatten, the Stratos 716X is a spacious six-place jet with generous space for baggage. The all-carbon airframe, single-engine jet is designed to cruise at 400 knots. The first flight was a full power takeoff and climb to 13,500 ft. A series of maneuvers were then conducted to evaluate handling characteristics. Andrew Chan, Michael Hare and Newlan Parker are the three new members of the SAFE volunteer Board of Directors following the recent SAFE Board of Directors election Their three-year terms will commence at their installation at the SAFE Annual Meeting in July or August. Due To Long Grass Blocking His Field Of View, The Pilot Was Unable To Maintain Directional Control

The glider pilot reported diverting from his original destination due to a weakening of soaring updraft conditions. While on short final to the divert airport that he had landed at on previous occasions, the pilot noticed the turf runway had not been mowed recently.
