The annual FAA UAS Symposium, which is co-hosted by the FAA and AUVSI, brings together industry and safety professionals, technology experts and regulators to share safety information and updates among the UAS community. FAA Approves Electronic Ignition System For R22/R44 Helicopters

EIS Is Designed To Last The Life Of The Engine

R22 and R44 helicopters purchased after January 15th will be outfitted with Lycoming's certified Electronic Ignition System (EIS). The EIS offers increased reliability, improved starting characteristics, and reduced maintenance. The EIS installation replaces the left starting magneto. The remaining right magneto provides redundant ignition and eliminates the need for a backup power supply. EIS has very high spark-energy for easy engine starts and eliminates internal moving parts for increased reliability.

The European Union Aviation Safety Agency has published a proposal of airworthiness standards for the certification of the vast majority of light unmanned aircraft. North American Aerospace Defense Command will conduct air defense exercise Falcon Virgo Wednesday 12:30-2:30 a.m. (ET) in the National Capital Region. The first international variant of the V-22 Osprey aircraft flew from Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni to the Kisarazu Air Field July 10, where the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF) will now operate, train with, and maintain the aircraft. 'Heard A Loud Pop From What Sounded Like It Came From Under The Engine Cowling'

On July 4, 2020, about 2200 central daylight time, a Beech BE35 airplane, N4219B, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident in Ravenna, Texas. The pilot sustained minor injuries and pilot-rated passenger was not injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 91 personal flight. The flight originated at Stan Stamper Municipal Airport (HHW), Hugo, Oklahoma, at 1915. According to the pilot, the run-up and departure were normal with no anomalies with the airplane in the beginning of the flight. The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for certain Rolls-Royce Deutschland Ltd & Co KG RB211-524G2-19, RB211-524G2-T-19, RB211-524G3-19, RB211-524G3-T-19, RB211-524H2-19, RB211-524H2-T-19, RB211-524H-36 and RB211-524H-T-36 model turbofan engines. This AD requires replacement of the low-pressure turbine (LPT) stage 1 disk before it reaches its new Declared Safe Cycle Limit (DSCL) or within 25 flight cycles after the effective date of this AD, whichever occurs later.

Weather Reconnaissance Area (WRA) A WRA is airspace with defined dimensions and published by Notice to Airmen, which is established to support weather reconnaissance/research flights. Air traffic control services are not provided within WRAs. Only participating weather reconnaissance/research aircraft from the 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Aircraft Operations Center are permitted to operate within a WRA. A WRA may only be established in airspace within U.S. Flight Information Regions outside of U.S. territorial airspace.
