Airborne 05.04.20: SpaceShipTwo, MAHEPA Electric Drive, Reno 'Rookie School'

The successful completion of Virgin Galactic’s first SpaceShipTwo test flight from Spaceport America has just taken place. This glide flight marks the inaugural solo flight of VSS Unity in New Mexico. On SpaceShipTwo’s flight deck were Dave Mackay and CJ Sturckow who, together with the team in Mission Control, executed some of the key elements of a spaceflight profile. These included take-off and landing along with high-altitude release from the mothership, VMS Eve, which was piloted by Michael Masucci and Kelly Latimer. VP-16 Conducts Aerial Change of Command over NAS Jacksonville

VP-16 Earned The Prestigious Battle E And Arleigh-Burke Awards

The “War Eagles” of Patrol Squadron (VP) 16 held an aerial change of command ceremony on May 1 in Jacksonville. Cmdr. Michael P. Bukolt Jr., from Syracuse, N.Y., was relieved by Cmdr. Kevin Kraemer, from Coral Springs, Fla., as commanding officer of VP-16. Kraemer will become the 66th commanding officer of VP-16. Bukolt has inspired the squadron to excel since he assumed command in June 2019. Under his leadership, the War Eagles, during their most recent home cycle, flew nearly 3,000 hours in support of strategic U.S. interests and combatant commander priorities. The pilot in the tailwheel-equipped biplane had completed a banner tow flight and had dropped the banner at its designated location. He subsequently entered the traffic pattern and approached to land with a right crosswind. During the landing roll, the airplane weathervaned, exited the right side of the runway and entered the soft grass surface that bordered the runway. The airplane nosed over and sustained substantial damage to the left upper wing, the vertical stabilizer and the rudder.
