Airborne 01.13.20: Continental MSB, First Colt LSA, Tamarack Update

Concerns about the amount of voluntary compliance with a low-cost Service Bulletin affecting certain 520 and 550 series engines have caused Continental Aerospace Technologies to turn it into a Mandatory Service Bulletin, with Continental shouldering the costs for the actual required work. Continental is re-categorizing SB18-08A to an MSB MSB18-08B. This re-categorization is needed due to the low percentage of compliance. The FAA has accepted Jack Edwards National Airport (KJKA) in Gulf Shores, AL as a candidate for the Federal Contract Tower Program. With this announcement KJKA is now required to provide an acceptable facility within five years. Several FAA offices remarked that KJKA set a record for the highest benefit cost ratio ever seen in the program’s history at 4.18, meaning that the benefits of the tower exceed the costs associated by a factor of 4.2. ANA To Receive Third Flying Honu A380 From Airbus

Expanding Its Fleet For The Narita-Honolulu Route

All Nippon Airways (ANA) will be launching the third of its specially designed “Flying Honu” Airbus A380s, allowing for ANA to offer both daily flights between Narita and Honolulu on these unique aircraft. ANA currently provides two flights daily on the Narita-Honolulu route, with 10 flights served by Airbus A380s and four operated by Boeing 777s.
