AEA Reminds Pilots And Owners That The ADS-B Deadline Is Looming

It may seem that the December 31, 2020 deadline for installation of ADS-B Out equipment is far away ... but in reality, there are fewer than 1300 working days left to get your airplane equipped to operate in controlled airspace. Given the number of shops that are equipped and qualified to do the installation ... AEA warns that pilots and owners who put installation off may find themselves on a long waiting list.

ICON Aircraft Constructs And Flies First Production A5

ESN-1 Was Built From The Production Design, Tooling

After years of waiting... and doubting... ICON Aircraft has unveiled what it says is the first production A5, an aircraft the company refers to as Engineering Serial Number 1 (ESN-1). This is reportedly the first A5 built from the production design, with production tooling, and using production methods and components. ESN-1 was built over a five-month period, from January to June of 2014, and successfully completed its first flight on 7 July 2014 in Tehachapi, CA. This aircraft is one of three that will be used to verify performance and complete FAA approval prior to the start of customer deliveries in May of 2015.

Congressman Graves Questions FAA Administrator On ADS-B Loan Program

Agency Was Encouraged To Establish A Loan Program To Assist Owners In Equipping Their Airplanes.

Part of the FAA Modernization and Reform Act of 2012 gave the FAA the authority to establish a Private-Public Partnership that would guarantee loans of up to 90 percent to assist operators of both commercial and GA airplanes to purchase and install the required equipment. It has been nearly three years since the law was passed, but no such program has yet been established.
