Qantas announced today that it will conduct a feasibility study into the potential for an Australian sustainable aviation fuel industry, backed by funding from the Australian Government. The Hon Martin Ferguson MP, Minister for Resources, Energy and Tourism, announced the government’s support for the study Friday morning.

A study conducted by Cambridge University shows that the EU's Emissions Trading System, or ETS, would likely survive any challenge from the WTO. Lorand Bartels, one of the University's senior lecturers in WTO and international law called the scheme "a bit messy," but "at the end of the day, it's justifiable." He said the ETS was on solid environmental and legal ground "on most points."

Air Force Officials Release Draft EIS For F-35 Operational Basing

The Air Force has filed a draft environmental impact statement for the proposed operational basing of the F-35 Lightning II within the continental United States. The current active Air Force and Air National Guard alternatives under consideration are: Burlington Air Guard Station, VT, Hill Air Force Base, UT, Jacksonville Air Guard Station, FL, Mountain Home AFB, ID, and Shaw AFB/McEntire Joint National Guard Base, SC.

Thomas Cook Canada To Discontinue Dedicated Charter Aircraft

Terminates Agreement With Jazz Aviation For Flights In Canada

Jazz Aviation said Thursday that it has received notification from Thomas Cook Canada Inc. ("Thomas Cook") of its intention to discontinue operating dedicated charter aircraft, branded as Thomas Cook Canada, due to market conditions. As a consequence, the remaining three years of the five-year flight services agreement with Jazz will be terminated effective April 30, 2012.

A grand jury has handed up an indictment against JetBlue pilot Clayton Osbon for interference with a flight crew after he had to be restrained during a flight March 27th. Osbon was locked out of the cockpit by his co-pilot after he began to say "things just don't matter," while flying the A320.

Frontier Fined For Violating Rules Protecting Air Travelers With Disabilities

Found That The Airline Failed To Provide Proper Notice Of FAA Regulations Regarding Travel

The U.S. DOT today assessed a civil penalty of $50,000 against Frontier Airlines on Friday for violating rules protecting air travelers with disabilities. “The Department of Transportation is committed to ensuring that airline passengers are treated fairly, and passengers with disabilities are no exception,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood.

RAF Typhoons Scrambled Over UK

Quick Reaction Alert Force Responded To Helicopter Transmitting Emergency Signal

Two RAF Typhoons were launched yesterday evening to intercept an aircraft that was transmitting an emergency signal and could not be identified via radio. The RAF jets are part of the Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) force which has Typhoon fighter aircraft and crews held at continuous ground-readiness at RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire, and at RAF Leuchars in Fife.
