The NTSB has released preliminary factual information in the
incident involving an A320 enroute from San Diego to Minneapolis
which traveled about 150 miles beyond its destination airport.
NTSB Factual Report Shows Treatments For Macular
Degeneration
The 86-year-old pilot of a Cessna 206 which crashed in 2008
killing all 6 occupants was warned not to drive a car due to his
failing eyesight, medical records show. An NTSB Factual Report
indicates he had not reported the problems on his most recent
application for a medical certificate, which was dated May 4th,
2007.
L-3 Link Simulation & Training will be supplying Advanced
Helmet Mounted Display (AHMD) units to the U.S. Air Force. The
devices simulate "out-the-window" computer generated imagery on
currently fielded F-16 Unit Training Devices (UTDs).

Aircraft Electronics Association Submits Comments to FAA in
Response to ANPR
The Aircraft Electronics Association (AEA) submitted comments to
the Federal Aviation Administration last week in response to the
FAA's safety management systems proposed rulemaking. The AEA does
not support the FAA's proposal to mandate an independent safety
management system for maintenance organizations.
Agrees To Pay Over $3.5 Million In Fees And Expenses
Southwest Airlines has settled a lawsuit which stemmed from
safety issues uncovered last year, and resulted in millions paid in
fines to the FAA. Southwest has agreed to pay over $3.5 million in
fees and expenses for the plaintiff's lawyers, and in exchange
claims against Southwest, its officers and directors will be
dropped.
Stork Aerospace subsidiary Fokker Elmo has signed a contract
with Rolls-Royce to provide design support and manufacture for the
electrical wiring for the Trent XWB engine. The associated
design-support and production work, which will begin later this
year, is expected to be worth approximately $70 million.
The deadline is fast-approaching for undergraduate students to
submit their team proposals to NASA's Reduced Gravity Education
Flight Program. Proposals must be received by 11:59 p.m. CDT,
Wednesday, Oct. 28.
USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) Marks End Of Five-Month
Deployment
Four ships and more than 5,000 Sailors of Carrier Strike Group
(CSG) 7 returned to their homeport of San Diego Oct. 21 after a
five-month deployment to the U.S. 5th Fleet and 7th Fleet areas of
responsibility (AOR).

Lo-Cost Carrier Now Has 48 Next-Generation 737's On Order
Boeing and low-cost carrier Norwegian Air Shuttle confirmed an
order for an additional six Next-Generation 737-800s Thursday. With
this order, Norwegian has a total of 48 Next-Generation 737
airplanes on order from Boeing as well as 22 airplanes from leasing
companies.
Delivery Adds To A Growing Fleet Of AW Choppers In Korea
AgustaWestland has delivered two AW139 helicopters to the Korea
Coast Guard. Korean officials accepted the aircraft during an
official ceremony held at the Vergiate plant in Italy. The AW139s
will be used for maritime patrol, search and rescue and emergency
medical service purposes.
With the announcement that AirTran Airways realized a $10.4
million profit for the third quarter with projections of continued
profitability, AirTran pilots expect management to recognize their
contributions to the success of the airline at the bargaining
table.

Airbus is prepping the first A330-200 freighter for its maiden
flight, marking the debut of another aircraft derived from the same
platform as EADS/Northrop Grumman's proposed KC-45 Tanker. This
mid-size, long-haul cargo aircraft is being readied for ground
tests that will lead to a first takeoff in November.
