Two Fatally Injured At Indonesian Air Show

Military Plane Went Down During Performance In Central Java

An Indonesian military T-50 Golden Eagle fighter airplane went down Saturday during an airshow at Adisucipto Air Force Base in Yogyakarta, Java Indonesia. Both crewmembers on board the airplane were reportedly fatally injured.

The demonstration was part of a military air show at the base, according to news.com.au. The accident was confirmed by Indonesian Air Force spokesman  Dwi Badarmanto. “Two pilots died,” he told news website Detik.

An ameture video of the accident shows the airplane completing a loop and beginning aileron rolls in a nearly vertical descent when the engine appears to flame out. There is text on the video indicating "engine failure." The airplane does not recover from the dive and disappeared behind trees. The video ends before a plume of smoke begins to rise.

The U.K. newspaper The Telegraph reports that the air show was celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Air Force Flight School at Yogyakarta.

The T-50 is a supersonic light attack fighter developed jointly by Korea Aerospace Industries and Lockheed Martin. It is South Korea's first "indigenous" supersonic aircraft.
