AD: Saab Aeronautics Airplanes

AD NUMBER: 2018-25-10

PRODUCT: All Saab AB, Saab Aeronautics Model SAAB 2000 airplanes.

ACTION: Final Rule.

SUMMARY: The FAA is superseding Airworthiness Directive (AD) 2018-11-07, which applied to the airplanes listed above.

AD 2018-11-07 required a one-time inspection of an affected lug attaching the aileron bellcrank support bracket to the rear spar of the wing and the adjacent area of the installed support brackets, a thickness measurement of the affected lug, repetitive inspections of the affected aileron bellcrank support brackets, and corrective actions if necessary.

AD 2018-11-07 also provided an optional terminating action for the repetitive inspections. This AD retains the actions of AD 2018-11-07 and requires the terminating action for the repetitive inspections.

This AD was prompted by a determination that it is necessary to require the terminating action.

DATES: This AD is effective January 14, 2019.

COST: The FAA estimates that this AD affects 8 airplanes of U.S. registry.  Operators may incur the following costs in order to comply with this AD:

  • Labor - Up to 19 work-hours × $85 per hour = $1,615. Parts - Up to $18,074. Cost per aircraft - Up to $19,689
