Genesys Begins Development on 4th Axis Autopilot

HeliSAS to Receive Update for Stability, Collective, and Hover-in-Place Capability in 2023

Genesys Aerosystems has begun work on a refined and improved iteration of its HeliSAS Autopilot and Stability Augmentation System. The change will see the addition of a 4th axis for the autopilot, bringing Hover & Hold capability with a control for the collective. The functionality gives pilots a single-button access point to hold the aircraft in a stable, fixed-position hover. The collective control enables constant, proper speed correction where needed, allowing for truly hands-free operation with a single keypress.

Reliable Robotics Finds New Partner in Automated GA Aircraft

North Dakotan BVLOS Network to Serve as Incubator for Automated Cessna Testing, Development

Reliable Robotics has begun working alongside Dakotan drone services specialist Vantis in their efforts to advance "repeatable, scalable and economically viable operations of uncrewed aircraft systems". The company has made a name for itself with footage of its remotely piloted Cessna 172 and 208 prototypes, demonstrating the capability to retrofit older, more affordable general aviation aircraft. Their use as an uncrewed, fixed-wing, full-size aircraft brings with it a few operational requirements that make the scale of testing more demanding than a smaller, VTOL UAV.

AD: Goodrich Externally-Mounted Hoist Assemblies

AD 2022-05-10 Prompted By Hoists Failing Lower Load Limit Inspections

The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for various model helicopters with certain part-numbered Goodrich externally-mounted hoist assemblies (hoists) installed. This AD was prompted by hoists failing lower load limit inspections. This AD requires replacing unmodified hoists, installing placards, revising the existing Rotorcraft Flight Manual (RFM) for your helicopter, deactivating or removing a hoist if a partial peel out occurs, reviewing the helicopter's hoist slip load test records, repetitively inspecting the hoist cable and overload clutch (clutch), and reporting information to the manufacturer. This AD also requires establishing operating limitations on the

ANN's Daily Aero-Term (03.17.22):

Mountain Wave Mountain waves occur when air is being blown over a mountain range or even the ridge of a sharp bluff area. As the air hits the upwind side of the range, it starts to climb, thus creating what is generally a smooth updraft which turns into a turbulent downdraft as the air passes the crest of the ridge. Mountain waves can cause significant fluctuations in airspeed and altitude with or without associated turbulence.
