City of Lakeland Waives Sun 'n Fun Rent Payments

SnF Gets $330,397 Rent Break After SnF20 Cancellation

Following negotiation with the city of Lakeland, the non-profit Sun' n Fun organization will get a waiver of rent payments that will cover about a year's worth of payments for the fees normally paid for the iuse of the Sun 'n Fun campus. Following extensive damage created by the COVID-19 pandemic and the cancellation of this year's event, the City Commission will waive $330,397 that would have otherwise been due to Lakeland Linder International Airport. 12 Additional 767-300 Converted Cargo Aircraft Added

Amazon is adding to their flock--again... with the addition of a lease for 12 more Boeing 767-300 converted cargo aircraft from Air Transport Services Group (ATSG). NTSB Prelim: Bellanca 8GCBC

Glider Canopy Opens, Disastrous Sequence Follows

On May 9, 2020, about 1319 Pacific daylight time, a Bellanca 8GCBC, N4116Y, was destroyed when it was involved in an accident at Byron Airport (C83), Byron, California. The pilot was fatally injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 glider tow flight. The pilot of the glider being towed reported to the National Transportation Safety Board investigator-in-charge that the accident flight was his second flight of the day. He stated that a pre-takeoff checklist was performed and that he verified the gliders canopy was closed and locked. Following a normal takeoff, the tow airplane pilot initiated a slight right turn, and shortly after, the glider canopy opened.

Contact Approach An approach wherein an aircraft on an IFR flight plan, having an air traffic control authorization, operating clear of clouds with at least 1 mile flight visibility and a reasonable expectation of continuing to the destination airport in those conditions, may deviate from the instrument approach procedure and proceed to the destination airport by visual reference to the surface. This approach will only be authorized when requested by the pilot and the reported ground visibility at the destination airport is at least 1 statute mile.
