NASA HQ Building Commemorates Mary W. Jackson

Jackson Was Recruited By The National Advisory Committee For Aeronautics In 1951

It took a while to get it all done, but NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine announced Wednesday the agency's headquarters building in Washington, D.C., will be named after Mary W. Jackson, the first African American female engineer at NASA. Jackson started her NASA career in the segregated West Area Computing Unit of the agency's Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia. Jackson, a mathematician and aerospace engineer, went on to lead programs influencing the hiring and promotion of women in NASA's science, technology, engineering, and mathematics careers. In 2019, she was posthumously awarded the Congressional Gold Medal.

The 412th Test Wing commander, Brig. Gen. Matthew Higer, announced the 2020 Aerospace Valley Air Show in October will be a “hybrid event.” Higer announced the change to the airshow during a live-stream town hall, June 19. Four Aviation Maintenance Science (AMS) students from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University recently traveled to Miami to participate in a course focused on the Airbus A320 — an opportunity generally reserved for working professionals. Approved by EASA, the course offers an overview of the Airbus A320’s engine, airframe and avionics systems. “Usually, an individual technician would not be doing the course without employer sponsorship, due to the high cost,” said Christopher Piccone, AMS instructor. The New Order Will Take NPA’s Airbus Fleet To 30

Japan’s National Police Agency (NPA) has ordered one new H225 and four H135 helicopters as part of its fleet modernisation programme. Currently operating 12 H135, four H155 and six AS365 helicopters, with one H215 and two H225 already on order, NPA deploys its growing fleet for missions including law enforcement, personnel and VIP transport, goods transportation, disaster relief, as well as wide area support. The five new helicopters will complement the agency’s law enforcement capabilities. The new order will take NPA’s Airbus fleet to 30.

Pilot Announced Unspecified "Engine Problems" Over The Radio

On June 12, 2020, at 1950 eastern daylight time, an experimental amateur-built Vans RV8, N553KM, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident at Henry County Airport (HMP), Hampton, Georgia. The airline transport pilot was seriously injured. The flight was conducted under the provisions of Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91. According to the owner/operator of the airplane and several witnesses, the purpose of the flight was for the pilot to join the operator in the air for an airshow practice flight. The operator was already at altitude when the accident airplane departed.
