CAPA Calls For Release Of New Flight/Duty Time Regs

Congress Mandated The Release Of Rules By August 1st

The Coalition of Airline Pilots Associations (CAPA), representing over 28,000 commercial passenger and cargo pilots, is calling on the FAA to release the new Flight/Duty Time regulations addressing airline pilot fatigue as required by the Airline Safety and Federal Aviation Extension Act of 2010. Congress, in H.R. 5900, called for new, scientifically-based limitations on the hours of flight and duty time for pilots in order to address fatigue.

The Ministry of Transport (MOT) has taken delivery of another two new Eurocopter EC225 helicopters ordered in 2009, after having what it described as a very positive experience with the first two EC225 that were delivered in 2007 and used extensively in many search and rescue (SAR) missions, including the 2008 Sichuan earthquake.

Leadership Changes Announced At Alaska Airlines, Horizon Air

Several Vice Presidents Shuffling Offices At The Two Airlines

Alaska Air Group announced several leadership changes late last week at Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air. Ann Ardizzone, whose career with Alaska Airlines spans three decades, has been elected vice president of strategic sourcing and supply chain management for Air Group. She previously served as Alaska Airlines' vice president of inflight services. Andy Schneider, senior vice president of people and customer services at Horizon Air, will assume the role of vice president of inflight services at Alaska and oversee the carrier's 2,700 flight attendants.

John Knox Bridges, who at one time was the president of The Lindbergh Foundation, shot himself in the torso Friday, according to authorities in Salisbury, NC. Police Chief Rory Collins told the Charlotte Observer that Bridges had sent a note to a neighbor Thursday morning which was "worded in such a way that everyone knew he was planning to commit suicide."

Calls For Documents, Information For Committee Oversight

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-CA) issued a subpoena to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) and Acting General Counsel Lafe Solomon August 7 as part of its investigation into NLRB action against the Boeing Company. It compels NLRB to comply with earlier, outstanding Committee document requests submitted in May. NLRB is compelled to produce identified materials to Committee offices no later than 1200 EDT August 12.
