Lockheed Martin's F-35A successfully flew from Fort Worth, TX to
California's Edwards Air Force Base on October 1, to begin expanded
flight testing and initiate test activities at Edwards. Flying
non-stop for more than 1,000 nautical miles, this was the
aircraft's first long-range, cross-country flight.

The days of relatively unfettered travel onboard large business
aircraft may soon come to an abrupt end. Thursday morning, the
Transportation Security Administration (TSA) unveiled its proposed
rule that will govern operations for all aircraft weighing more
than 12,500 pounds, which would require those operators to
implement an approved security program.
New TSA Proposal Must Balance Security With Mobility
Add two more aviation "letter groups" to the list of those which
plan to carefully review Thursday's notice of proposed rulemaking
(NPRM) issued by the Transportation Security Administration,
regarding sweeping changes to security requirements on all aircraft
over 12,500 lbs MTOW.
Pennsylvania Governor Edward G. Rendell announced Thursday that
four state airports will begin marketing efforts to raise community
awareness and attract more passengers with the help of a federal

A Vital Topic... Deserving Of NASA's Attention (and YOURS)
Late last year, ANN's Aero-TV crews spied a truly marvelous piece of flight simulation technology... NASA Glenn's icing flight training simulator. Demonstrated at the Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference (I/ITSEC), we were incredibly impressed at the apparent accuracy of the model (ANN's Jim Campbell has plenty of Twin Otter time -- the aircraft used in the icing encounter sim model -- and knows only too well that the icing behavior they displayed is what he has experienced, personally, in real icing conditions).

As universal military service fades from the public experience,
many members of the American public will never get to meet their
soldiers and learn of our military's legacy of service and
contribution to our Country. Our military's deeds will be recorded
in history books but our veterans will not be heard.

"Developing flight simulators that incorporate the
aerodynamic effects of icing will provide a critical element in
pilot training programs by giving pilots a pre-exposure of
icing-related hazards, such as ice-contaminated roll upset or
tailplane stall. Integrating these effects into training flight
simulators will provide an accurate representation of scenarios to
develop pilot skills in unusual attitudes and loss-of-control
events that may result from airframe icing."
