ANN REAL TIME NEWS: 1515 EDT -- The top law officer in
Cyprus, Attorney General of the Republic Petros Clerides, issued
search warrants Monday aimed at Helios Airways. This, after
Sunday's crash of a Helios 737 bound from Larnaca to Athens, then
on to Prague.
Helios Airways Chairman, Andreas Drakou, said today that the
accident to flight ZU522 was a terrible tragedy and that the
company is providing immediate financial and other assistance to
the families of all those affected by the appalling event.
Helping Find Answers In A Tragedy Surrounded By Questions
A team of National Transportation Safety Board investigators has
arrived in Athens to assist the Air Accidents Investigation and
Aviation Safety Board of Greece in the investigation of the Helios
Air, Boeing 737, aircraft accident.
Still reeling from a wildcat strike that cost more than $17
million a day, British Airways Sunday had another fine mess to deal
with. An Embraer ERJ-145 ran off the end of the runway in Hanover
Germany.
It's another in a string of incidents for Japan's beleagured JAL
Airways -- a DC-10 was forced to make an emergency landing at
Fukuoka Airport Saturday when its number-one engine burst into
flames shortly after take-off. This, after a government warning
about possible defects in some DC-10 stator vanes and turbine
blades.
All On Plane -- Including Infant -- Recovered Safely
This is a story that could have had a much different -- much
more tragic -- ending. But six people, one of them an eight-month
old baby, are doing just fine now after they were plucked from the
ocean. Their Piper PA-31 ditched Saturday six miles from Fort
Lauderdale-Hollywood Airport in Florida.
The ICAS Foundation has announced that three air show men
of importance will be inducted into the ICAS Foundation Air Show
Hall of Fame. Bill Sweet, Bob Herendeen and Wayne Handley join the
ranks of 24 other aviation greats who have been honored in the Air
Show Hall of Fame since its inception in 1995.

As Greek recovery teams sifted through the wreckage of a Helios
Airlines 737 that went down on Sunday, they reported finding bodies
that were "frozen solid" after the plane suffered what appeared to
be a catastrophic loss of cabin pressure and heat, authorities
said. The Cypriot aircraft's black boxes were recovered and
investigators hoped to find they would provide some insight into
the mishap, which killed all 121 people on board.

I've never flown a Piper Saratoga but I could get used to
it. The bird I'm at the controls of is a brand-new, fully
decked-out model, complete with an equally new Avidyne FlightMax
Entegra glass panel and an oh-so-sweet turbocharged Lycoming under
the cowl.
A Robinson R44 helicopter crashed while giving rides at the
annual open house of the Greenwood Airport (HFY), just south of
Indianapolis, Indiana on Saturday morning. The pilot and two
passengers on board the aircraft sustained minor injuries and were
treated and released from Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
Estonian and Finnish divers have called off the search for the
missing pilot of the Sikorsky S-76 C+ helicopter that went down
into the Baltic Sea on Wednesday. The helicopter was operated by
the Finnish company Copterline.

pilot was already dead as was, possibly, everyone else on the
plane. "
