While much of the aviation industry was licking its wounds in
2010... there were some bright spots and changes that should make
2011 a brighter year for GA. In particular, 2010 marked a year of
transition for Robinson Helicopter Company.
Is It Time To Overhaul (Or Even Eliminate) FAA Certification of
GA?
By John Ylinen, Private Pilot
If you are reading this column in Aero-News; then you are
probably an aviation enthusiast -- and most likely a pilot. If
you became a pilot since the 1970s; you have been witnessing the
slow death of General Aviation. For the purposes of this editorial;
I will confine my discussion to Private aviation, small plane and
privately owned. Not corporate jets or other such commercial
endeavors. Commonly called/flown under Part 91.
ANN Continues To Raise The Bar With Aero-TV LIVE
'Aero-Streaming' Programming
The Aero-News Network is getting ready to innovate again, with
the addition of professional live web streaming to the growing
ANN/Aero-TV suite of programming options. The world's first

Save a few bucks with SAFE? Yeah, that sounds like a plan to
us... In an ongoing effort to expand and improve the benefits
available to its membership, the Society of Aviation and Flight
Educators (SAFE) recently added King Schools and ForeFlight to a
list of more than two dozen providers of discounts on products and
services. Existing benefits providers PilotWorkshops and Sporty's
have expanded their offerings to members as well.

'Proof-Positive' That Sport Aviation Glass Panel Avionics Don't have To Be A Budget-Buster
It was near the end of a long and pretty cool day as we exited Robinson helicopter, awash in the aerial-coolness that allowed us to beat their new R66 to death and pull off a really great Air-To-Air shoot all over (literally) LA. We were cranking up the little side road that borders the airport when a sign caught my attention and I smacked my forehead, again literally, and hit the brakes with a screech (screw it... it was a rental) realizing that I had forgotten that a VERY cool little avionics development company was literally a few hundred yards away from the Robby HQ. Throwing our day's schedule to the wind, we zipped into the lot and got ourselves WELL acquainted with the latest offeri
An Experienced Aviator Reports To ANN About His Re-Registration
Experiences...
When the FAA clobbered the GA community with what appeared to be
an unworkable attempt at playing 'Big Brother' with the recent
enaction at 'Re-Registration' one of our first thoughts was about
where and when we'd hear of the first abuses of this overtly
intrusive process. Thrust upon the GA world in the name of security
and other dreck, the Re-Registration scam and its "modest' fees
appeared then to be nothing more than yet another federal power
grab and yet another way for the FAA to continue its assault on a
doddering and faltering GA business.

Aero-Hero: Cessna and Jack Pelton
Heroes are getting hard to come by... and sometimes they show up
quietly and make themselves known with a series of sensible good
deeds that keep coming and coming and coming... while all those
around them seem to be do little more than run around in circles
bemoaning the falling skies.

Furthering The 'Aero-Info' Age of Aviation
ANN has had an amazing year discovering and operating some
amazing new technologies that raise the level of aero-portable
device capability to levels heretofore unimaginable for the general
aviation world. Five more products knocked our socks off in
2010 and therefore DESERVE and EARN their place in the second (and
final) batch of the TOP TEN Aero-Gadgets/Products of the
Year.
February 11th Is The Deadline For Charities To Apply For 2011

International Convention & Trade Show
The 54th Annual AEA International Convention & Trade Show
(March 22-25, Reno, NV) is a unique opportunity to connect with
manufacturers, distributors, technicians, and business leaders as
we shape the future of avionics together. It's also a really GREAT
event... as fascinating as it is informative... and ANN will be
back this year with our amazing LIVE coverage of the AEA New
Product Introduction session as well as other news and events.
