Delta CEO Wanted No-Fly List for Disruptives

Airline Head Wanted US Passengers Guilty of In-Flight Violations Barred from Travel Industry-Wide

News outlets have latched on to "a previously unreported letter" from Delta executive officer Ed Bastian to the  U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland which reportedly exhorts the law enforcement arm to place disruptive passengers on the no-fly list. The executive said the action "will help prevent future incidents and serve as a strong symbol of the consequences of not complying with crew member instructions on commercial aircraft." The stir-crazy atmosphere of 2020 has continued onward unabated in 2021, with higher rates than ever before of unruly or disruptive passenger behavior.

Daher Buys Florida Manufacturing Facility

Florida Facility Will Produce Large Aircraft Parts for Quest Kodiak Production

Daher has acquired a metallic aerostructures production and assembly facility from Triumph Group, Inc. The new location will allow Daher to bolster its Quest Kodiak aircraft operations, itself a recent addition to the company's portfolio after a purchase in 2019. The Stuart aerostructures business lies in Stuart, Florida, and is specialized in the assembly of large, complex metallic structures like wing and fuselage assemblies. Currently, the location employs 400 at the historic site 90 miles south of Cape Canaveral.

Carbon Neutrality Available for FBOs, Operators, as Credits for Purchase

Taking a page from competitor Shell Aviation, Phillips 66 has unveiled its own carbon offset program for FBOs and flight operators. A partnership with 4Air has opened up sales of carbon offsets for FBOs to address CO2 emissions from jet, avgas, gasoline, and diesel fuels used. Those interested can buy offsets through their Phillips relationship to go neutral in terms of their own usage, in addition to offering customer-facing offset sales through the parent program.

Lightweight Practice Chute for Acrobatic, Intermediate Training Use Granted O1 Approval

Rostec has received certification for its Magic sports parachute system, designed for single or team acrobatic skydiving at altitudes up to 13,000 feet. The product has been granted the O1 code, meaning it's in the clear for widespread use by Russian Armed Services, security agencies, and similar entities. The parachute consists of a 9-section ram-air main chute, and a 7-section reserve, plus harness. The intermediate category wing is an ellipse, meant to be sufficiently tame-able for average parachutists with around 100 jumps of experience.

“Ran Into Weather Can’t See Anything”

On December 26, 2021, about 1729 central standard time, a Cessna 172E airplane, N5798T, was destroyed when it was involved in an accident near Hardy, Arkansas. The private pilot and passenger sustained fatal injuries. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. A preliminary review of track data indicated that the airplane had already been airborne before it was visible on radar. The airplane first appeared about 13 nm north of the Walnut Ridge Regional Airport (ARG), Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, at 1627, at an altitude of about 2,500 ft. The airplane flew generally south toward ARG until track data was lost at about 1643, 3.5 nm north of ARG.
