Boeing Identifies Pegasus Airlines As 737 Mystery Customer

As "The Law Of Sixes" Continues...

Earlier this week, Boeing identified Pegasus Airlines as the carrier which earlier this year placed an order for six Next-Generation 737 airplanes. The order was previously accounted for on Boeing's Orders and Deliveries Web site as being from an unidentified customer.

The manufacturer reports deliveries of the aircraft to Pegasus Airlines -- an all-Boeing operator based in Istanbul -- will begin in 2008. The order is valued at $406.5 million at list prices.

In addition, the airline also holds options for six more Next-Generation 737s.

Pegasus Airlines started operations 15 years ago with a single 737, and has since grown its business to a fleet of 14 Boeing 737s.

Boeing Commercial Airplanes predicts strong traffic growth for the Turkish aviation market, both domestic and international. Over the next 10 years, Turkish carriers will require 160-180 new airplanes -- and Boeing believes that single-aisle airplanes like the 737 (and Airbus A320...) will constitute the majority of demand.

Earlier this week, Airbus and Boeing each had six additional reasons to celebrate, with Airbus receiving an order for six of its upcoming A350 from Yemenia Airways (as well as options for four more), and Boeing responding in kind with six Dreamliner orders from Kenyan Airways.
