Rockwell Collins new SAT-6100 satellite communication system is
making its debut aboard the high-speed Bombardier Global 5000
corporate jet this week. The new system is a baseline component of
Rockwell Collins first-ever Ethernet-based Airshow 21 Cabin
Electronic System.
“The SAT-6100 system represents a breakthrough for
customers seeking real time information and connectivity in a
compact, light weight product. Its capability is unmatched for a
system of its weight and size,” said Denny Helgeson, vice
president and general manager, Business and Regional Systems for
Rockwell Collins.
The SAT-6100 is comprised of the
Rockwell Collins SRT-2100 – a single compact unit –
along with one or two Rockwell Collins HST-2100 High-Speed
Transceivers providing three Aero-I/H/H+ channels, and one or two
channels of Swift64 high-speed data service.
A 50-watt high-power amplifier improves system performance and
allows simultaneous usage of two voice channels and two high-speed
data channels providing Internet, e-mail, fax and digital phone
service to the aircraft, as well as one low-speed data channel for
ICAO safety services. Future functionality will include Inmarsat's
Swift Broadband capabilities allowing data transmission at speeds
up to 432 kbps.
The SAT-6100 interfaces with all Inmarsat-approved high-gain
antennas using the ARINC 741 standard, including top- or fin-cap
mounted antennas and the latest conformal antenna packing Aero-H
capability in Aero-I size. In addition, the SAT-6100 can be used
with any Inmarsat-approved intermediate gain antenna to accommodate
Aero-I service. The system is capable of STE and STU-III secure
communication and can also be integrated with a wide variety of
cabin equipment for telephone, fax and PC data creating a flexible
voice and data communication system.
