Source: John Leonhardt, who was the passenger in a Mooney M20E flown by South Carolina Lieutenant Governor Andre Bauer when the plane crashed on takeoff near Blacksburg, SC in May. In an updated factual report on the accident issued by the NTSB, the board states the runway was too short for the conditions at the time. Leonhardt maintains the Mooney's engine wasn't making full power when the plane took off -- a claim possibly supported by findings of investigators, who say induction tube attachment bolts installed in the engine were found to be the wrong size, possibly affecting the air-fuel mixture.
