New Piper Selects Avidyne EFIS For Its Six-Seaters

Six Seats and Glass Cockpits = Unique Aircraft Line

New Piper Aircraft has selected Avidyne's FlightMax Entegra Integrated Flight Deck as optional equipment on four of its models - the Saratoga II HP, the Saratoga II TC, the Piper 6X and the Piper 6XT - making them the only six-place aircraft on the market with this state-of-the-art avionics system.

"Piper remains instrumental in bringing new technology to our customers," said New Piper President and CEO Chuck Suma. "Pilots of these high-performance aircraft expect a lot, and these integrated glass systems deliver. The Avidyne's FlightMax Entegra system simplifies the pilot's workload and provides the tools that allow for more aggressive missions and flight profiles."

The FlightMax Entegra system for the Saratoga and 6X family of aircraft consists of two beautiful 10.4-inch diagonal, high-resolution, sunlight-readable displays including an EXP5000 primary flight display (PFD) with integrated solid-state air data and attitude/heading reference system (ADAHRS), and an EX5000 multi-function display (MFD) with EMax(tm) Engine Instrumentation and optional Datalink Weather capability.

Entegra's EXP5000 PFD presents standard flight instrumentation including attitude direction indicator (EADI), horizontal situation indicator (EHSI), altitude, primary engine instruments, airspeed, and vertical speed. Entegra's EX5000 MFD delivers unique situational awareness on an integrated display including moving map, lightning, terrain, traffic, complete engine information and optional datalink weather

Entegra's innovative EMax provides primary engine instrument capability including the display of manifold pressure, RPM, fuel flow, and oil pressure on the PFD. In addition, EMax provides fuel totalizer capability, an automatic leaning function, and a "percent horsepower" display, which takes the guesswork out of fuel and power management. EMax also shows fuel remaining, and computes nautical miles per gallon, fuel-to-waypoint, and fuel-to-destination on the MFD. In addition, all six cylinder head (CHT) and exhaust gas temperatures (EGT), oil temperature, outside air temperature (OAT), and electrical bus voltages are also monitored and displayed. EMax also provides data logging capability of critical engine performance parameters, which are downloadable via the MFD data port in a standard spreadsheet format for easy analysis.

"This integrated new system addresses safety and value issues," said Suma. "The system will help pilots manage their cockpits to new levels."

"Avidyne was the first company to bring this cutting-edge capability to light aircraft and as a result, the current demand for and value of these Piper aircraft, as well as long-term resale value of these six-place aircraft is significantly enhanced," said Molly Martin Pearce, Director of Sales and Marketing for The New Piper Aircraft, Inc.

New Piper claims that the Saratoga HP/TC and the new Piper 6X/6XT have the reputation of being some of the most reliable aircraft in current production. With the addition of the new Entegra System, these aircraft will 'lead innovation in the general aviation market by coupling a trusted and proven airframe with the latest in integrated avionics suites.' Piper's integration of the Entegra System is unique in the market in that Avidyne's Emax Engine Indicating and Fuel Management Systems is provided with the equipment at no additional charge. All primary engine indications will be displayed on both the PFD and MFD, alleviating the need for backup engine instruments. Currently, no other manufacturer offers this integration as a package deal.

When customers order the new Entegra System, the vacuum system will be removed and replaced with electric and pitot/static standby flight instruments, making this New Piper's first implementation of a non-pressurized product with an all-electric flight instrumentation system.

Additionally, New Piper will offer Narrowcast Datalink as an option with the FlightMax Entegra System. Narrowcast Datalink Technology displays GPS location/positioning with Nexrad weather information, providing pilots with a new level of situational awareness and decision-making tools in the cockpit.

"While the equipment is certified in the US for immediate deliveries domestically, our international customers are anxious for the equipment, and we'll be seeking international certifications in the near future," said Pearce.

"We're very happy to be selected by New Piper to supply FlightMax Entegra for the Saratoga and 6X aircraft families. New Piper's selection of FlightMax Entegra provides the safety, capability and reliability of air transport and business jet flight decks at an affordable price for six place aircraft." said Mark Sandeen, Vice President of Sales and Marketing. "FlightMax Entegra has set the standard for integrated flight decks, and New Piper is bringing this capability to an important segment of the market."
