Airborne-Unmanned 06.12.18: FAA Restrictions, Drone Innovation Act, Parrot Anafi

Also: UAS Software Startup Kittyhawk, Drone Delivery Canada, Axon And DJI, Airobotic's Autonomous Industrial Drones

At the request of federal security partners, the FAA has been using its existing authority under Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulations (14 CFR)§ 99.7 – “Special Security Instructions” – to address concerns about drone operations over national security sensitive facilities by establishing temporary Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) specific flight restrictions.

Information on the FAA Notice to Airmen (NOTAM), which defines these restrictions, and all of the currently covered locations, can be found on our website. To ensure the public is aware of these restricted locations, this FAA website also provides an interactive map, downloadable geospatial data, and other important details. A link to these restrictions is also included in the FAA’s B4UFLY mobile app. The sponsor of the Drone Innovation Act of 2017 introduced a year ago in the U.S. House of Representatives has provided details in the bill summary for the proposed legislation. The bill was introduced by Rep. Jason Lewis (R-NV). The initial bill summary indicated that the bill would direct the DOT to publish a civil unmanned aircraft (drone) local operation policy framework in the Federal Register. Parrot has announced ANAFI -- a diminutive foldable drone. Its four arms fold and unfold in less than three seconds. The Parrot Skycontroller 3 remote control unfolds in 1 second and automatically connects to ANAFI. Via carbon fiber/hollow glass microbead construction, ANAFI weighs in at only 11.2 ounces. Anafi uses a USB-C charging system. It’s 4K HDR camera is equipped with a 21MP sensor, and a 3-axis stabilization system with a 180° vertically rotating camera and a lossless zoom up to 2.8x. Flight times of 25 minutes are possible using a ‘smart’ battery. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne-Unmanned!!!
