Another Drone Taken Down By Gunfire

Aircraft Costing North Of $3,000 Fell From Over 350 Feet

A drone pilot flying outside his home in Morgan County, TN had his aircraft shot out of the sky by an unknown gunman with a .22 caliber firearm.

Brad Jones said he was hovering at about 357 feet taking video of the sunset when he heard the gunshot, according to television station WVLT. The drone spiraled down and impacted terrain.

An examination of the aircraft found that it had been hit by a .22 caliber bullet. Between the gunshot wound and the long fall, the aircraft was damaged beyond repair.

Jones said he paid more than $3,000 for the aircraft. He filed a police report asking for anyone with any information about who shot down his drone to contact the Morgan County Sheriff's Office. "I'm sure they don't know that it's a federal offense to shoot a drone out of the sky," Jones told WVLT.

It was not reported whether Jones was flying the drone over his own property, or someone else's when the incident occurred.
