EAA AirVenture Issues Important NOTICE On Updated Procedures

The EAA AirVenture Aviation Center today issued what they consider “required reading” for OshKOSH bound pilots for 2022. The EAA will be hosting a “tips for flying in” webinar on 22 Jun 2022 at 7:00pm CDT (see FMI link for registration). About that required reading…because of a changed FAA internal procedure, there is no longer a NOTAM for OshKOSH, the document is now called a NOTICE.

The largest aircraft in the world, recently destroyed, may be returning sooner than originally expected, if off-the-cuff remarks made by the Ukrainian head of state are any indication. For a brief time, it appeared that the legendary An-225 could be built at a discount, as Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky made mention of an $800 million price tag for the aircraft's successor. Those who remember the vow made by Ukrainian aerospace corporation Ukroboronprom in February would recall a much higher price tag at the time: $3 billion, to start.

Honolulu Air Carrier Faces Allegations of Lax Documentation, Maintenance Procedures

The FAA has proposed the revocation of Honolulu-based Rhoades Aviation Inc.’s air carrier certificate, citing “numerous alleged safety violations”. In an announcement earlier this week, the agency alleged that Rhoades has failed to conduct itself with the appropriate level of professionalism, from lapses in recordkeeping, airworthiness, and operations. Rhoades Aviation, Inc appears to be the operator of the the Hawaiian cargo line Transair, as well as the air charter and tour operation Transair Global. The outfit gained some attention in 2021 when one of their 737-200s experienced an engine failure and ditched in the sea south of Oahu. <

Aviation Maintenance Technician Schools to Use Industry Curriculum, Performance-Based Norms

The FAA has published its interim final rule regarding the modernization of Aviation Maintenance Technician schools, now open for public comment. The interim rule uses a performance-based regulation that offloads some of the process of curriculum management and development towards technical educational organizations, freeing the education system from the slow pace of bureaucracy. Now, technical schools will update curriculum and incorporate training that aligns with industry standards.

The Aviation Electronics Association has published the industry’s results of the 1st quarter of 2022, reporting that more than 634 million dollars’ worth of business and general aviation avionics were sold throughout the world. Overall, the numbers portend a waxing aviation economy, showing increased demand from years and months prior. Sales increased nearly 5% from the 4th quarter of 2021, marking off the 7th consecutive quarter to increase sales. An increase of 11.6% was seen in the first 3 months of the year over the same span in 2021, bringing in $634M to an earlier $568M. 

About 50-miles From MOT, The Engine Began To Run Rough

On March 11, 2022, about 1605 central standard time, a Cirrus SR22T airplane, N164CP, sustained substantial damage when it was involved in an accident near Minot, North Dakota. The pilot and 1 passenger were not injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. The pilot reported that he was on a 1.5-hour visual flight rules (VFR) cross-country flight from Fargo, North Dakota. Minot International Airport (MOT), Minot, North Dakota was his destination.
