Bob’s passing marks the loss of one of America's greatest heroes, a legendary person in the history of aviation, and our dear friend. We are told that Hoover passed away in the early morning in a hospital near his home in Rancho Palos Verdes

Drone Operator Allegedly Attacks Helicopter Using Unmanned Aircraft

Occurred During Protest Of The Dakota Access Pipeline In North Dakota

Authorities report two documented cases where an unmanned aircraft system (UAS) flew at a helicopter in a threatening manner. The helicopter was assisting in surveillance in the vicinity of Highway 1806 during an active protest situation Sunday morning. A sheriff on board the helicopter reported to law enforcement on the ground that the helicopter pilot and passengers were “in fear of their lives”, and that the “drone came after us.”

FAA Issues Part 107 Waivers, Airspace Authorizations

Eighty-One Authorizations Approved To Date

The FAA began issuing Part 107 waivers and airspace authorizations to drone operators starting August 29, 2016, the effective date of the new rule. As of October 24, 2016, the agency has approved 81 authorizations for flights in Class D and E airspace, and has issued 36 waivers of Part 107 provisions to drone operators who applied after the rule’s effective date.
