Circling Aircraft Prompted Gettysburg Hotel Evacuation

It was a dark and foggy night over Gettysburg (PA) when, out of the gloom was heard the persistent sound of a small aircraft flying low over downtown. In earlier days, police might have turned on their overhead lights and driven to the airport, in hopes the aircraft might follow. Early Tuesday morning, officers instead evacuated the Gettysburg Hotel.

Positive Security Message To City Leaders

AOPA has made a positive pitch on general aviation security to the National League of Cities (NLC). AOPA Senior Vice President of Government and Technical Affairs Andy Cebula was invited to brief an NLC policy committee on Friday. Cebula repeated AOPA's assertion that GA is not a significant threat and that extraordinary security measures at GA airports are not needed. The NLC will be making airport security recommendations to some 18,000 cities, towns, and villages.

Family Wanted More In Damages

When the family of Missouri Governor Mel Carnahan (right) won their lawsuit against vacuum-pump maker Parker-Hannifin, the Jackson County (MO) jury deciding the case refused to award his widow any punitive damages. Monday, a county judge refused to approve the family's demand for a second trial so they might get another shot at punishing the parts maker.

The United States Navy has awarded CAE USA a contract initially valued at US$38 million to develop two MH-60S tactical operational flight trainers (TOFTs) and two MH-60S weapons tactics trainers (WTTs). The contract includes options for two additional MH-60S TOFTs and two additional MH-60S WTTs as well as support services that could bring the total value to more than US$75 million.

House Majority Leader Accused Of "Serious Criminal Acts"

A Texas Democrat whose Congressional career was abruptly ended by reapportionment this year has filed a complaint with the House ethics committee, accusing House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-TX, below) of "serious criminal acts" -- including abusing his Congressional power by using the FAA and Department of Homeland Security to track down a wayward plane load of state Democrats.

Runaway Citation 7 Smacks Into Hawker At Hobby

Nobody was hurt, but someone's going to get a big bill for body work. A Cessna Citation 7, apparently left unattended with the engines at idle, rolled from its spot on the ramp at Atlantic Aviation and into Hawker at Hobby Airport Wednesday.
