AMA Drone Report 04.11.19: AMA v Farmer's, FAA Seeks Comments, Hollywood UAVs

AMA has some heartburn with Farmers Insurance... They aired a commercial which highlighted a drone crashing into a windshield of a moving vehicle. While AMA appreciates that Farmers Insurance commercials typically focus on unusual accidents outside of the norm, “we did take issue with the negative attention this gives our hobby.

Companies and organizations are free market how they see fit, but AMA felt that it is our responsibility to inform Farmers Insurance Group that their commercial fuels a public misperception that drones and model aviation are a societal liability when in fact the industry is a force for good.” Model aviation needs your help to ensure future regulations do not place unnecessary burdens on our community.  Last month, the FAA issued an advanced notice of proposed rulemaking (ANPRM) regarding the safe and secure operations of small UAS. In this ANPRM, the FAA is currently seeking comments on potential new rulemaking for operational and performance restrictions on UAS, including model aircraft. Some of the parameters being considered include altitude, airspeed, stand-off distances and unmanned aircraft traffic management. International Cinematographers Guild Local 600 is involved in an ongoing dispute with Warner Bros. over the use of non-union FAA-licensed drone pilots in an effort to have the pilots compensated at union scale. The dispute arose from the hiring of three drone technicians for the Rush Hour TV series in 2015. The dispute continues to this day. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of the AMA Drone Report!!!
