Airborne 10.17.16: NBAA v Santa Monica, Galaxy Note7 Ban, Passport UAV

Also: Textron Layoffs, Blue Origin, Poland v Airbus, Next ISS Crew, BVLOS UAV, Seca 2200d Drone Light, UAS4STEM 2017

As the city of Santa Monica, California continues to strangle its own airport by making it impossible for businesses to operate there, the National Business Aircraft Association has stepped in with an urgent request for the FAA to take action.

NBAA President and CEO, Ed Bolen, has cited "an urgent need for further, stricter action" to halt blatant actions by city officials to drive local businesses from The Santa Monica Municipal Airport. Rather extreme measures are now in effect to resolve the danger of battery fires in the Galaxy Note 7 smart phone while on board airliners. The DOT, the FAA, and the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration, have issued an emergency order to ban all Samsung Galaxy Note7 smartphone devices from air transportation in the United States. Individuals who own or possess a Samsung Galaxy Note7 device may not transport the device on their person, in carry-on baggage, in checked baggage, or as shipped air cargo on flights to, from, or within the United States. If you've been looking for a 4K foldable flying camera that eliminates the chance of being cut by the propellers when you fly it indoors, you might want to check out the Zero Robotics Passport, which has finally launched after a lengthy development process.

The drone folds up to a compact size and its rotors are fully enclosed so that operators can safely pluck it out of the air. The aircraft is controlled by your smartphone; there is no separate controller. It weighs 8.5 ounces. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
