Pilot Fatally Injured In MK-58 Accident

Privately-Owned Military Trainer Went Down On Approach To Port Hueneme, CA

The pilot of a privately-owned Hawker Hunter MK-58 military training jet was fatally injured Wednesday when the airplane went down on approach to Port Hueneme Naval Base in southern California.

The jet was owned by Airborne Tactical Advantage Company, according to the Los Angeles Times. The company is a Navy contractor that helps pilots train by simulating tactics used by potential enemies.

The pilot was the only person on board the aircraft. The Ventura County Fire Department said that the plane went down in a field near Hueneme Road at 1713 PDT. No information about the pilot has been released, but the company says that all of its pilots are former military pilots with at least 2,000 hours in their logbooks.
