New Zealand Pilot Injured In FW-190 Replica Accident

Reportedly Broke Both Ankles And Fractured His Skull

A pilot making a flight in a recently-acquired replica of a Focke-Wulf 190 (similar aircraft pictured in file image) was injured Friday when the plane reportedly lost power and went down on farmland near Levin, New Zealand. The pilot was able to get out of the airplane, but reportedly suffered two broken ankles and a fractured skull in the forced landing.

The online site stuff.co.nz reports that the pilot, Murray Milne, was making only his second flight in the kit-built FW-190 replica. His wife said he had bought it last month, and had flown it only once before.

The plane reportedly lost power, and he chose the field as an emergency landing site after making a "mayday" call. He apparently just missed hitting a water trough with the plane, and eventually came to a stop on top of a fence.

The 56-year-old pilot is an engineer for Air New Zealand in Wellington, and has been flying since he was 16 years old, according to the site.
