Classic Aero-TV: Skyport's Roger Sharp - Lessons Learned from 2013

Flight Training Lessons From 2013 Still Relevant Today...

While at the Redbird Migration 2013, ANN CEO and Editor-In-Chief, Jim Campbell met with Roger Sharp, the general manager for Skyport and Redhawk Aircraft. Jim’s interview started with the question of, “What have we learned in 2013.”

Sharp replied that 2013 has been the year that has solidified the use of flight simulator training as a primary training tool. In particular, he mentioned the application of their Guided Independent Flight Training (GIFT) scenarios. Sharp goes into a detailed and easy to understand description of how GIFT works, but the simplified version is that it’s a combination of simulator training with computer-based training (CBT).

In the new and exciting world of GIFT the CBT part of the program presents the curriculum, lesson, and evaluation as part of the full motion flight simulator training session. This means the simulator itself can train a student to the practical test standards.

As Sharp goes on to explain the Skyport training program and philosophy it becomes clear that the training game has to be improved, and Skyport is setting the example. Their training curriculum, methods, and the use of flight simulation in basic training are the way of the future. This video is a must see for anyone in the flight training business.
