Here’s a short story titled, A World Beyond Roads, which sounds like fiction but it’s not, and this video will prove it.
Our story begins… It’s one of those days that makes you want to get out and go—go anywhere. You pull a vehicle out of your garage that looks something like a dune buggy. The steel tube frame and the exposed wheel suspension leaves no doubt that this baby is meant for rough riding. Of course, the propeller mounted on the back does portend that this vehicle is special.
Putting the pedal to the metal can get you from zero to 60 MPH in less than four seconds, and once off the highway, it can beat the rough terrain into submission.
However, it’s when you run out of road that a new kind of fun begins because this car can fly. The conversion from car to powered parachute is easily accomplished in 15 minutes. With full throttle applied, the prop pushes you forward. Now you are driving in the sky—what a day!
In this video ANN News Editor Tom Patton talks with Troy Townsend, the Design Engineer and Chief Test Pilot of the Maverick Flying Car. Townsend explains that rather than designing a plane that can be made roadable, the Maverick is a rugged back-country car the can be made to fly. It was developed by I-TEC (Indigenous Peoples Technology and Training Center) to help indigenous peoples in remote parts of the world have access to ground and air transportation that they could operate themselves with a minimum amount of training. It’s a combination of utility and fun factor.
This video is replete with flight and ground action coverage of this amazing machine. You may want to watch it more than once to take in all the video details.
