Avidyne Introduces Flightmax Entegra Integrated Flight Deck

Just as everyone was trying to get ready for the opening day of Oshkosh, Avidyne has introduced the new FlightMax Entegra integrated flight deck (long rumored and eagerly awaited) for general aviation aircraft. The system includes a primary flight display (PFD) with an integrated solid-state air data and attitude/heading reference system (ADAHRS) and a multi-function display (MFD) with integrated datalink weather capability.

FlightMax Entegra provides standard flight instrumentation including attitude direction indicator (EADI), horizontal situation indicator (EHSI), altitude, airspeed, vertical speed, moving map, integrated datalink weather, lightning, terrain, and traffic on large 10.4-inch diagonal, high-resolution, sunlight-readable displays.

The FlightMax Entegra PFD is designed with a fully integrated, solid-state air data/ attitude and heading reference system (ADAHRS). The compact, lightweight, ADAHRS system uses a 3-axis solid-state inertial reference and accelerometer system combined with a flux gate compass to replace the traditional vertical and directional gyros.  Avidyne's state-of-the-art ADAHRS provides roll, pitch, and heading data with reliability far exceeding mechanical gyros, and accuracy surpassing ADAHRS systems found in corporate aircraft.

"Virtually all new air-transport and high-end business jet aircraft are now delivered with integrated flight deck systems because of the enhanced safety, capability, and reliability of these systems, but until now integrated flight decks haven't been available for light general aviation aircraft due to cost, complexity, size, and weight," said Mark Sandeen, director of sales and marketing. "With FlightMax Entegra, we've developed an affordable integrated flight deck solution that allows light GA aircraft to have the same capability, reliability, and safety advantages as big-iron corporate jets."

"Avidyne was founded to bring integrated flight deck technology to GA aircraft, and FlightMax Entegra is the making that goal a reality," said Avidyne president Dan Schwinn. "FlightMax Entegra has been embraced by the most progressive aircraft manufacturers across a wide range of capabilities from light piston trainer aircraft to twin turbofan personal jets."

The FlightMax Entegra PFD displays 6-second trend indicators for airspeed, altitude and heading.  Trend indicators, which are typically found only on air transport and high-end corporate jets, allow you to fly more precisely with reduced workload when changing or maintaining an airspeed or altitude. Entegra's integrated air data computer provides airspeed, altitude, vertical speed, and outside air temperature (OAT), and continually updates the winds aloft and true airspeed (TAS) indications on the PFD. Designed to couple with the autopilot for altitude preselect, vertical speed select and heading select modes, FlightMax Entegra does not require external control panels. Selection bugs and digital readouts for each of these parameters are provided for clear and concise one-button operation. In addition FlightMax Entegra utilizes an integrated ByteFlight databus for high-speed data transfer.

The electronic horizontal situation indicator (EHSI) provides synchronized switching as you transition from the en route phase to the approach phase of your flight. The EHSI can be viewed in standard 360-degree compass rose, or in a 120-degree Arc mode, with selectable RMI pointer and flight-plan moving map display.

The FlightMax EX5000 MFD with integrated datalink features is the most versatile big-screen moving map available in general aviation, providing clear and concise navigation information over an exceptional color-contoured terrain and water base map.  All special-use and class airspaces are color-keyed for added clarity, and can be displayed at the same time as NEXRAD and METAR weather. Comprehensive Jeppesen NavData™ and an expansive obstacle database provide you with an unparalleled view of your flight environment.  Full overlay capability allows you to add or remove any available sensor data, with 120-degree forward view and 360-degree center view maps. The FlightMaxEX5000 also presents easy-to-see curved flight path segments such as DME arcs, holding patterns and procedure turns, overlaid with traffic, terrain, weather, airports and runway diagrams, taking the guess work out of shooting instrument approaches. It also displays lightning and traffic data when interfaced with Goodrich's WX-500 Stormscope® lightning sensor and Skywatch® Traffic Awareness System (TAS).

Pricing
FlightMax Entegra includes a primary flight display with integrated ADAHRS and a FlightMax EX5000 multifunction display including integrated datalink for under $60,000.
