Aspen Avionics Receives Approval for Pro MAX PFD/GFC600 Combo

Autopilot Support for Aspen Glass Panels Expanded

Aspen Avionics obtained approval from the FAA for new software enabling integration of a handful of autopilots with their EFD1000 Pro MAX Primary Flight Display (PFD). The approval covers Garmin’s GFC600 digital autopilot, improving single-pilot operation with streamlined control flows and PFD integration. In addition to the GFC600 approval, the Aspen PFD gains selected altitude support for both Trio and Bendix/King AeroCruze 100 autopilots, as well as extended runway centerlines on the MFD500/1000 MAX multi-function displays.

JetBlue Pilots Nail 2-Year Contract Extension

Negotiations Nab 21.5% Pay Rate Increase Over 18 Months

JetBlue Airways have approved a 2-year contract extension after months of negotiations. The group, represented by the Air Line Pilots Association,(ALPA), "overwhelmingly" approved the extension, gaining them a compensation increase of 21.5 percent over 18 months. The deal will include a number of smaller monetary improvements. Ultimately, 95 percent of eligible pilots participated, with 75 percent voting in favor of ratifying the tentative agreement reached in December.

NASA to Study Startlingly Valuable Asteroid

The Cold [Cash] of Space

In October 2023,  NASA will launch a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket containing sensitive scientific equipment to Psyche—an asteroid valued at a scarcely-believable sum of money. NASA sets forth that the rocket’s outbound journey to the asteroid will span some 42-months. Upon arriving at Psyche, the spacecraft will commence a 21-month study by which NASA hopes to glean an understanding of the massive asteroid’s structure and history.

NTSB Prelim: Kaman Aerospace Corp K-1200

Helicopter Experienced A Partial Loss Of Engine Power

On January 24, 2023, about 1300 Pacific standard time, a Kaman Aerospace Corp, K-1200 helicopter, N202WM, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Sweet Home, Oregon. The pilot sustained minor injuries. The helicopter was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 133 external load flight. The pilot reported that while returning to the designated log landing zone with a log about 200 ft above ground level (agl), the helicopter experienced a partial loss of engine power.
