Airborne 04.26.19: Tamarack Emergency AD, Tree Landing, D-Day Squadron

Also: Skydiver's Lost & Found, Sikorsky S-70 Training, F-16 Production Line, Commercial Drone Delivery

EASA has issued an emergency AD for Cessna Citation jets with Tamarack ATLAS active winglets installed. According to the AD (2019-0086-E), the active load alleviation system (ATLAS), when operational, deflects the Tamarack active control surfaces (TACS) on the outboard wings. Recently, occurrences have been reported in which ATLAS appears to have malfunctioned, causing upset events where, in some cases, the pilots had difficulty to recover the airplane to safe flight. WestJet recently celebrated the opening of its new Dreamliner maintenance hangar at its hub at Calgary International Airport (YYC). Member of Parliament, Kent Hehr, City of Calgary Councillor, Jyoti Gondek, Calgary Airport Authority president and CEO, Bob Sartor, 1500 WestJet employees and members of WestJet's executive team were on hand for a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
