The UK’s Royal Air Force has grounded several WWII aircraft over concerns about the engines installed on the airplanes. The RAF grounded several aircraft associated with its Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. Four Spitfires, two Hurricanes and a Lancaster bomber have been grounded until an issue with the engine aboard one of the Hurricanes can be checked out. On Saturday, August 19th, high school students from across the US competed in the UAS4STEM National Competition at the International Aeromodeling Center in Muncie, Indiana. The student teams built their own drones and competed in a search-and-rescue challenge for the national title. The contest is designed to teach science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) skills. GA-ASI MQ-9B SkyGuardian Completes FAA Approved Flight

Flight Through Multiple Classes Of Non-Segregated Airspace Represents Another Step Towards Certification

On August 16th General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) flew a MQ-9B SkyGuardian Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) from Laguna Airfield at Yuma Proving Grounds, Ariz., through National Airspace, to its Gray Butte Flight Operations facility near Palmdale, Calif. The MQ-9B is a STANAG 4671 (NATO airworthiness standard for Unmanned Aircraft Systems)-compliant version of the Predator B product line. The 275 mile trip lasted approximately one hour, 45 minutes and required FAA approval to fly through various classes of non-restricted airspace.
