FAA: Crisis? WHAT Crisis?

Nobody doubts air traffic controllers have a legitimate labor dispute with the FAA. In 2006, after contract negotiations reached an impasse, the FAA used the authority granted it by Congress to simply impose what it called its "last, best offer," and the union is prohibited by law from striking.

Continental Pilots Respond To Company's Record Profits

Seek Return On Their Investment In Airline's Success

Capt. Tom Donaldson, chairman of the Continental pilots' union, represented by the Air Line Pilots Association, Intl., has responded to Continental Airline's financial statement for the fourth quarter of 2007. The company reported Q4 pre-tax profits of $71M and $566M for the year.

NASA's Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy, or SOFIA, has passed a significant mission milestone. It has completed the first phase of experimental flight tests, which confirmed the structural integrity and performance of the modified 747SP SOFIA aircraft that carries a huge infrared telescope.

As one of the first to start financing Light Sport Aircraft (S-LSA) in May 2005, AirFleet Capital tells ANN that it has led the industry with affordable rates and terms for private and now commercial-use buyers. The first Air Force pilots selected to fly the F-22 Raptor without previous fighter experience entered the 63rd Fighter Squadron for the Raptor Lead-in course Jan. 14, at Luke Air Force Base, AZ. Ya have to have to hand it to the folks at AmSafe -- aviation safety is a tough gig to pursue, and even tougher when you're thinking "out of the box." AmSafe has done just that... with a novel new way to incorporate air bag technologies into a somewhat conventional lapbelt... making installation and certification a far less strenuous affair than an integrated airframe solution. In 1997, AmSafe reports that it developed the first aviation airbag restraint system, which took its first flight in 2001, and is now flying on more than 25 commercial airlines and on over eighty-percent of the new GA fleet.

Source: Displayed on signs held by NIMBY picketers against New Jersey's Solberg Airport... implying that runway improvements at the small, private airstrip would lead to jumbo jets flying in and out of the rural community. Sadly, the town of Readington, NJ did ultimately condemn 624 of the airport's 726 acres in 2006, and seize development rights to the remainder, saying it wants to preserve the land as a greenspace. The move could shut the airport down forever.
